Clay Workshops

Join my small, cozy, hands-on clay workshops and experience the joy of working with ceramic materials from raw clay to finished pieces. All workshops are beginner-friendly, no prior experience is required. Workshops take place at my home in Tegernheim, in a relaxed setting with a maximum of 4 participants.

I offer three different clay workshops, depending on how much time you’d like to spend with the material and how deeply you want to dive into the ceramic process. To book your spot, just send me a message!

1-Day Workshop – Handbuilding & Underglaze Painting
In this introductory workshop, you’ll learn how to work with clay. You will create one or more small ceramic pieces using handbuilding techniques. Time permitting, you can decorate your work with engobes/underglazes during the same session.
Your pieces will be bisque-fired, coated with a clear glaze (or a white glaze if preferred) and glaze-fired by me after the workshop. Your pieces will be ready to be picked up after about 2-4 weeks, depending on how quickly they dry.

Duration: 3 hours
Price: 75 € per person

2-Day Workshop – Handbuilding, Trimming & Decoration
This workshop allows more time and precision. On day 1, you’ll handbuild your pieces using stoneware clay.
For day 2, you can choose between two options:

Option 1 - Leather-hard stage: You'll return the next day, once the clay has reached the leather-hard stage, to refine your work by trimming and decorating with engobes and underglazes. I will add a clear glaze after the bisque firing. Your pieces will be ready to be picked up after about 2-4 weeks, depending on how quickly they dry.

Option 2 (my recommendation!) - After bisque firing: Alternatively, you can come back once your pieces have been bisque fired to glaze and decorate them using glazes and underglazes. Glazing after the bisque firing allows you to work with proper ceramic glazes rather than only engobes and underglazes. This gives you access to richer colors, beautiful depth, exciting surface effects, and glossy or textured finishes that truly come alive in the kiln. The results are often more vibrant, varied, and surprising, making each piece feel even more special.
Your pieces will be ready to be picked up a few days after glazing.

Duration: Day 1 - 3 hours
Day 2 - 2,5 - 3 hours

Price: 135 € per person

3-Day Workshop – From Clay to Glazing
This in-depth workshop guides you through the entire ceramic process. During the first two consecutive days, you’ll handbuild, trim, and decorate your pieces with underglazes if desired. The focus of this workshop is to create two mugs or tumblers - one made with the pinch technique, and the other built out of slabs. However, you are free to create whatever you like!
After bisque firing, you’ll return for a third session to glaze your own work.

This workshop is ideal if you want a deeper understanding of ceramics and full creative control over the final surface. Once your pieces have been glazed, they will be ready to be picked up after about a week.

Duration: Day 1 - 3 hours
Day 2 - 2,5 hours
Glazing - 2 hours

Price: 175 € per person

Surface Decoration: Engobes, Underglazes & Glazes
In the workshops, you’ll work with different ceramic surface techniques, each offering a distinct look and creative possibilities. From soft, matte finishes to detailed illustrations and glossy, glass-like surfaces, these materials allow you to personalize your pieces and give them their final character.

Engobes
Engobes are liquid clay with added pigments, applied to leather-hard or bone-dry clay. Engobes are great for soft, matte surfaces, subtle color areas, and painterly effects that become part of the clay body itself.

Underglazes
Colored slips designed for detailed decoration. They can be painted, drawn, or layered onto leather-hard or bisque-fired pieces and allow for precise lines, patterns, and illustrations. Underglazes are usually finished with a transparent glaze.

Glazes
Glass-forming coatings applied after bisque firing. Glazes melt in the kiln and create glossy, satin, or textured surfaces. They add depth, shine, and make the piece fully food-safe and waterproof.
Glazes can also be layered to create exciting color interactions and unique surface effects.

Additional Information
Wear comfortable clothes that can get dirty. Clay dust and glaze stains may not wash out completely.

Please do not attend the workshop if you are sick or have symptoms of a contagious illness. We'll find another time slot for you!
Due to the nature of ceramics, small cracks, warping, or glaze variations may occur during firing.
